After this migration, the old site on wimborne-orienteers.org.uk no longer works (If you try to use .org.uk your browser should point you straight to the new site at .co.uk). A lot of links, particularly to the committee email addresses and the results archive, got broken as a result of the migration. I'm slowly trying to fix these and hope to be finished by Christmas! If after then you find anything broken, please let me know.

1. We have had 46 league entries via Racesignup to-date
2. As a reminder, the League is your best 8 scores from 12 events and the league tables reflect this
3. In the open competition, James has an unassailable lead in the men's competition whilst Karen is well clear in the women's competition.  Harry is the leading junior currently in second place overall with Roger close behind in 3rd.  In the Age Graded competition, things are a lot closer with only 6 points covering the top 3 places and only 1 point between Roger & James with Chris not far behind!  All to play for...

Don't forget the West Moors event, which runs until Aug 31st: this uses a brand new map from Chris Branford of a small area of forest which we haven't used since a Dorset Schools event around 2002.

Payment for the season is via Racesignup. There will be 12 events over the summer, six each from WIM & WSX, and, as we now have to pay an event levy to British Orienteering for MapRunLeague  events, we hope you will feel the charge of £20 for the season's events reasonable, even if you can't manage them all. Much more detail on the Summer MapRun Page

March 05  Three of our juniors, Grace French,Harry & Monty Bratcher Howard, have been running for England this morning as part of the England team at Interland, held this year in Belgium. Feb 23 More sad news.We have lost two of our members in recent days.

Adrian Lovell, a relatively new WIM member who joined us from BADO a few years ago, collapsed and died at the end of a training run in the New Forest a few days before BNOC 2023 where he was scheduled to be helping.

Bernice Tonge died the Monday after BNOC. She had been a WIM member for over forty years. Bernice, and her husband David, have been part of the fabric of Wimborne Orienteers over many year and were regular volunteers, helping at our events as well as regular competitors. They founded an orienteering dynasty and their children, Veronica (now SOC) and Jeremy (BOK) are still regular orienteers. Bernice was very proud of the orienteering prowess of her grandchildren, two of whom have now run for Britain at junior international level.

To David, Veronica, Jeremy and their families  and friends, and to the friends and families of Adrian Lovell, Wimborne Orienteers extend their deepest sympathies.

Feb 21 Sad news from SARUM. Liz Yeadon writes to tell us "we have been informed that Ron Ley has died - just short of his 100th birthday! Ron was a Founder member of Sarum Orienteering Club and our President for many years. He was also competing well into his 90s - which shows the inclusive nature of our sport!"

Special congratulations to our juniors who definitely led the way with Alice, Grace, Harry & Monty all scoring maximum points for the club.   Well done to Karen & Keith who also scored maximum points.  The full results can be viewed on the WSX website.

In addition, I would like to commend the sportsmanship of various club members who "chose" to run the wrong course and so be non-competitive to give our opponents a better chance!  Your club captain would appreciate you not extending such generosity of spirit to the final! Finally a big thank you to WSX for hosting the event and all the work and time involved including some very cold early mornings."

Full details on the Night League web page.

Sept 15  The WSX Summer League event at Blandford Milldown on Sat 24th Sept will go ahead as advertised but without the scheduled official opening of the new Milldown Permanent Course (POC) alongside it. The period of official mourning for the Queen has meant that the Council have been unable to generate and circulate the publicity necessary for the launch. (The same thing happened when the Duke of Edinburgh died just before the Sturminster Newton POC was opened in April 2021 and it had to be re-launched this year).
Rather than having the Milldown event going off at half-cock through lack of local publicity, the council have decided to reschedule and have a proper launch later in the year.

Sept 08 The Summer MapRun League tables have been updated to include the last Moors Valley event. The final round is at Blandford Milldown on Sept 24 in conjunction with the opening of yet another urban POC and a FindYour Way event: see the news page of the BOF website for more details.

"WSX  & WIM are now in a group of eight Clubs nationally involved in a project from British Orienteering called 'Find Your Way' .Basically its MapRun orienteering for the masses, based on teaching people to explore their area using O maps and the MapRun app. We now have a Summer Series set up with both clubs holding three events each at which we will be offering Yellow/ Orange and 1 hour Score courses at several locations. There will be full promotional details soon when the leaflets come back from the printer..
I'm writing now to ask you to get involved in this. Both WIM & WSX were using MapRun before British Orienteering launched their three year project to teach people how to use it, and Im proud of getting the MapRun Permanent Orienteering Courses in there first. Did you even know about it?

What with Covid restrictions, and the death of the Duke of Edinburgh just before the intended launch date meant couldnt do a proper launch of the Sturminster Newton POC last April, but we can now, and Its on 23rd April. There is a promo flyer linked here'      I'd like you all to come. Sturminster Newton is a lovely little town, you can have a summer run, stop at Shillingstone Station on the way, even ride your bike there on an off road trailway all the way from Blandford.
