Wimborne Orienteers invite you to the 4th edition of the Summer Series 2026 Sturminster Newton Score Event and the McCreadie Family last hurrah!!
Wimborne Orienteers would like to invite you to visit Sturminster Newton, a lovely village east of Blandford Forum for a race and social. This is the McCreadie families last hurrah for the club before they head to Scotland on their next adventure and we would like to say goodbye and thank you for all the fun and support you have given us over the past 4 years.
Location:
The Railway Gardens, Sturminster Newton, DT10 1BN
Parking:
Station road car park, Sturminster Newton w3w stammer.views.pheasants
There will be no parking attendants please use the spaces provided and park sensibly. Parking charges apply. 90p for 1 hour, £1.20 for 2 hours.
Terrain:
Mostly urban environment with some fields and grassed areas
Map:
1:5,000 revised in May 2026 for this event.
Courses:
60 minute score course. You have 1 hour to gain as many controls as you can. You will lose 10 points per minute (or part minute) late back.
Yellow course suitable for newcomers and juniors.
Timing:
Start times 11:00am – 12:00am. Courses close promptly at 13:00pm. Registration from 10:30am.
Event Timing:
The event will use SIAC enabled Sport Ident punching. The start and finish are not SIAC enabled, this is a safety measure.
Cost:
£7 Senior (£2 supplement for Non BOF members), £2.50 Juniors (under 21 on race day)
Entry for Yellow course is free.
No charge for SI hire but a £30 charge if it is lost.

Food and Facilities:
Public toilets are available near the car park entrance. There are lots of little cafes in the area but feel free to bring a picnic. They are located near the start and finish and havre picnic tables.
Attire:
Shorts and t-shirts. Trail shoes advised but road trainers will be fine. Waterproof jacket if required weather dependant.

Safety:
This is an urban event. Please wear high vis when out on the courses and be aware of moving traffic and other pedestrians.

Orienteering is an adventure sport. All competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.
From 1st Jan 2026 British Orienteering have changed their rules on Public Liability insurance. Their guidance for events is as follows:
Participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering's public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example if you were to accidentally injure a member of public or damage any property during the event you would not be covered and would be personally liable.
Cancellation:
Cancellation is a last resort, however if very bad weather is forecast or some unforeseen event makes it necessary to cancel, a notice will be placed on the WIM website. We will also send an email via the entry system. If the event is cancelled, Wimborne Orienteers reserve the right to retain part of the entry fee to cover any un-recoverable costs.
